5 steps Updated Mar 7, 2026 SOP · Standard

This is the first procedure to complete when setting up a new Odoo instance. Company settings control how your business appears on all outgoing documents, emails, and reports.

1

Open General Settings

From the main Odoo dashboard, click the Settings app. The page opens directly on General Settings, which is divided into sections: Users, Languages, Companies, Emails, and more.

Step 1: General Settings overview

2

Update Your Company Information

Scroll to the Companies section. Click → Update Info next to your company name.

Fill in all required fields:

  • Company Name
  • Address (Street, City, State, ZIP, Country)
  • Phone and Email
  • Website
  • Tax ID / VAT number
  • Logo — upload a high-resolution PNG or JPG

Click Save when done.

Step 2: Company information section

3

Configure Document Layout

Still in the Companies section, click → Configure Document Layout.

Choose your preferred document style — this controls how invoices and quotes look when printed or emailed:

  • Layout: Classic, Boxed, Bold, or Striped
  • Font: choose a brand-appropriate font
  • Color: your brand’s primary color
  • Tagline: a short company slogan shown on documents
  • Footer: add your bank details, company registration number, etc.

Use the live preview on the right to check the result, then click Save.

Step 3: Document layout configuration dialog

4

Set Up Outbound Email

Scroll to the Emails section.

  • Alias Domain: enter your company domain (e.g., yourcompany.com) so replies to emails land back in Odoo.
  • Custom Email Servers: check this box if you want to send via your own SMTP server. Enter your host, port, and credentials.
  • Digest Email: leave enabled to receive a weekly summary of key metrics.

Click Save.

Step 4: Email configuration section

5

Set Units of Measure

Scroll to the Units of Measure section. Select:

  • Weight: Kilograms (kg) or Pounds (lb)
  • Volume: Cubic Meters (m³) or Cubic Feet (ft³)

These units appear on delivery orders and product specifications. Click Save.
